The busy world

2021

team project with Ábel Laki and Julia Gunther

consultants:Zsófia Csomay, Balázs Marián

This project is our experiment  based on low rise high density housing. Our statment is that rather than more, but smaller, private gardens, it's one huge public park. So we tried to condense the living facility on one half of the site, and leave the rest un-touched, free to use for the residents of the housing.  We developed a structure that allowed us to create this super-dense housing, while keeping privacy for the ones living in it.

Our basic unit consists of 4 houses around a yard, with windows opening mostly at this common space. Putting these units in line then creating rows (=streets) where one can reach his/her house.  The flats come in 5 sizes, and we tried to create practical layouts, where we used every square meter of the space. Every flat has access to some private outdoor space: a terrace or a small garden. In these streets we created some 'communal living rooms', as an extension to the flats. They take place in some basic units, this way we lightened the structure a bit. These living rooms are for the people living in one street, they have a small kitchen and 2 floors.

We designed 6 different types of flats, the ones on the ground floor are always 30 m2, the upper floors can vary.

This plan has 3 levels of communal spaces, in order of private-semi public-public.

co-yards

This is the base of our structure, every 4 houses share a yard, that only they have access to.

co-living rooms

We placed one of these living rooms in every street at a different spot. This can be used by the residents of the street, as an extension of their home. We think this is a good initiative to build a community among the people who live very close to each other.

public park

Half the site is a public park, with wild plants, a community house and an outdoor nursery. In the city it is unusual for a resident to have access to a bigger green space, although it is  essential in our daily routine to have a space where we can go and relax.
